Many people think that being a missionary means that you must go overseas, but the truth is, we are all called to the great commission, whether overseas or right here in our own backyard.
A sobering truth that I have come to realise in the last several years is that the church itself has become a great mission field with many unsaved, not ever hearing the true gospel that redeems, but rather believing in a ‘gimme gimme’ gospel, a version of Jesus which has no power to set men free, but keep them enslaved to sin. Even turning aside the truth for a lie, preferring darkness rather than light, thus sinning against God and approving of others who also unashamedly sin without repentance.
Oh Lord, what have we become? Father God, how could we have trampled underfoot Your precious, One and only Son and profaned the blood of the covenant in this way – outraging the Spirit of grace?
Lord, forgive us and help us, the church, to realise our error and turn back to our Saviour in spirit and truth. We know that Your wrath is quickly kindled when there is no true repentance.
We understand that it is written that many will depart from the faith (1 Timothy 4:1) before Your return, so Lord I pray that we would have the boldness to stand and declare Your Word, despite the persecution that comes from the world, and even from the ‘religious’ within ‘the church’, so that those who belong to You will come out from among them and be numbered with Your holy people rather than being numbered among the transgressors who are perishing.
We live in a generation where professing Christians prefer to be entertained rather than read the Bible, prefer crude jokes than holy edification, desire heavy metal music to Holy Spirit-led worship, would rather charismatic preachers who ‘communicate’ with ‘relevance’ to this sick and dying generation than those who speak the honest, unhindered Word that saves. We live in a generation where professing Christians laugh, mock and curse those who seek to be godly and continue to question sound doctrine and choose to indulge in every kind of immorality.
1 Peter 2:7-8 ‘So the honor is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe, “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,” and “A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense.” They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.’
Lord, You are a Rock of offense to those who are afraid to come into the light lest their evil deeds be exposed. But those who truly come into the light with a contrite heart are open to Your Word that convicts and corrects, and the darkness in their life becomes an offense, even to themselves, leading them to repentance.
Oh Lord, where has Your church gone? Where is Your bride? Has she fled to the wilderness? Is she nowhere to be seen? Lord, You are faithful and You are about to bring Your body together to be the one true bride who will be lifted up for all the world to see. She will look radiant because she shines Your light and brings glory and honour to You – hallelujah!
Lord hear my heart cry, as I know that You do. This is indeed Your heart as You want that none should perish.
