The Bible - Our Spirit Level
When you build a house, you want to make sure the foundations are level so you use a spirit level (as pictured) to ensure everything is straight.
How about life? Sometimes we need to measure the path that we are on.
Well, we know Jesus is the only sure foundation us Christians should build on (1 Corinthians 3:11) in all areas of our life; ministry, marriage, family, work, school – EVERY matter!
What spirit level do we use to make sure that we are in God’s will?
With the Holy Spirit’s guidance (John 16:13), coupled with God’s Word, you couldn’t find a better way to know God’s will.
‘Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.’ Romans 12:2
Many Christians are led by their heart alone, but we know that when we hear from God, it will be in line with the Word of God. God isn’t going to tell you something that is opposed to His Word.
For example; God isn’t going to tell you to move in with your boyfriend when you are not married as this would clearly not be in line with God’s Word (1 Corinthians 6:13-16). God does not change His mind (Numbers 23:19) and won’t go against His own Word.
‘But the word of the Lord endures forever.” And this is the word that was preached to you.’
1 Peter 1:25
This is also how we test the spirit of others (1 John 4:1), especially because there are so many false prophets.
So there you go! God’s Word is your spirit level.
