Jesus is Goodness

What did Jesus tell the rich young ruler? He gave him the Ten Commandments. When the man said he had kept them, Jesus said to sell and give (Luke 18:18-23).

Now why did our Lord say that? Because he asked “what must I DO to inherit eternal life?” This man thought he had kept the commandments so Jesus exposed his short coming – he put money before his love for God.

The law was given to show us our need for a Saviour because no man has kept the law, otherwise Jesus wouldn’t have needed to come and suffer our judgement on the cross.

Now look at Luke 19, Jesus dines with the chief tax collector; no demands given, just grace and love. The tax collector said, “Behold Lord, half of my possessions I will give to the poor, and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will give back four times as much,” Jesus said, “Today salvation has come to this house…”

Acts 13:39

...through Him (Jesus) everyone who believes is freed from all things, from which you COULD NOT BE FREED THROUGH THE LAW of Moses.

It is the goodness of God that leads to repentance – Romans 2:4, and Jesus is that goodness; not the boastful works of ‘man’.
