“When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.” -Proverbs 11:2
When we walk in humility, we are walking in wisdom.
“For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.” -Romans 12:3
It is easy for us to think highly of ourselves as it comes naturally to our flesh to want praise and self-glorification. However we must put those fleshly and wrong desires aside and humble ourselves. This is an ongoing thing we must continually do as each day, our flesh tries to rise up and we must not give in to that temptation. That is why in Luke 9:23 God says to “deny yourself daily”.
“Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” -Philippians 2:5-8
Jesus set us a great example of how we should be walking as Christians in Humility. To truly humble ourselves just as He did when He was in human form. This example is what we should be trying to be like.
“Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you,” -1 Peter 5:5-6
We are to be humble and submit to one another. If we take the lowly servanthood position just as Jesus took when He washed His disciples’ feet, we will be humbling ourselves, and this is the position God has told us to take.
“But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. We must be careful that we do not walk as proud people, but walk in humility before Him. If we walk in humility we are not only submitting ourselves to God, but we are also resisting the devil and he cannot stay. God is above all and He tells us that when we submit to Him, the devil will flee.
Praise God for His promises and grace that He has for those who walk in humility.
