"...you thought that I was one like yourself..." - Psalm 50:21 ESV
Many falsely align what God approves and disapproves with their own values. In reality, it should be the other way - we align our thinking, values, beliefs etc, with what the bible says.
In a similar way, how we view God and His attributes should be based upon the bible and not any false assumptions or presuppositions.
Here are a few examples:
Many correctly believe that God is love. However, there aren't as many who understand and accept that God is holy and just (1 John 4:8, 1 Peter 1:16, Isaiah 30:18). On the contrary, there are some who believe that God is holy and just, but act like God has no love.
Another example is where many would accept Jesus as a 'Saviour' but not their King and Lord (Luke 2:11, Revelation 19:16). In other words, many like to have the mindset that they go to heaven, but refuse to live for Christ (as they want to still selfishly live how they like). Once again, on the contrary, there are some who believe Jesus is God and King, but refuse to believe that they require saving and don't view Christ as a Saviour.
Let us not fall into the trap of falsely viewing God's attributes to be what we would like it to be. Rather, let us wholly submit and immerse ourselves to and in the bible to understand God and His attributes more so that we can praise and glorify Him in a greater and deeper way.
