“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit."
Faith comes by hearing, and hearing the Word of God. In my last devotional, I encouraged everyone to read the Bible, and to help us understand why God has certain things repeated in the Bible, in this devotional, I'm going to talk about trust.
Trust is a reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, security and confidence of a person or thing.
Trust puts us in a vulnerable position at another's power.
In our day-to-day activities, we trust in more than you may think. To name a few, some of these may be:
We put our trust in so many different things, however, we continually get let down by these things very often.
Our secrets get exposed, vehicle accidents happen and at anytime our lungs could fail to function anymore. We can never fully trust in these things - we must be aware that things don't always happen the way we think they should.
We can completely trust God! We can completely trust in God's Word (the Bible).
God shows us in many parts of the Bible who we should have trust in. (2 Samuel 7:28, Proverbs 3:5, Psalm 13:5, 20:7, 31:14, 56:3, 84:12, John 14:1).
Christ will never let us down! He will never leave us nor forsake us. Our Lord is such a gracious God.
It is so comforting to know that our Lord will never break our trust. He will lead and guide us when we put our faith in Him.
"But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation."
This song sung by Hezekiah Walker describes our Lord perfectly:
"What a mighty God we serve,
what a mighty God we serve,
Angels bow before Him
Heaven and earth adore Him
What a mighty God we serve."
