Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of [God's] mouth more than my necessary food.
Job 23:12 KJV
What a statement! Job treasures and views the Word of God more than His own necessary food.
We, as Christians, should learn from this. This should be the cry of our hearts when it comes to our own attitude about reading the Bible.
The principle of this verse not only applies to food, but to all of our everyday necessities - God's Word takes priority. We do not need to worry about what we shall eat, drink or wear as these things shall be added to us if we seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness first.
Let us meditate on the following verse:
Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Matthew 6:31-33 ESV
Let our Bible reading, studying and meditating take its rightful place on our list of priorities. Surely our spiritual food takes precedence over our physical food.
