"The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers."
1 Peter 4:7 ESV
The end refers to the second coming of Christ and the events that take place in relation to His return.
It is always time to be self-controlled and sober-minded, however one of the many crucial reasons why Christians should conduct themselves in this way is because the end is near. We are to be vigilant and prepare for Christ's return like the five wise virgins in Matthew 25.
Peter iterates that our behavior affects our prayers. To expand on this, being self-controlled and sober-minded leads us to pray according to God's will. Anything less may lead us to praying amiss.
Notice how Peter does not request for his audience to pray. He assumes they are already praying.
Reader, let us continue to pray and ask the Lord to help us be self-controlled and sober-minded today until the time to come.
