"Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."
Matthew 26:41 NASB
Christians are in spiritual warfare daily (Ephesians 6:12-13). We battle our own flesh which wages war against the Spirit (Galatians 5:16-17). We strive to live a Holy Spirit empowered life of holiness, humility and purity with all integrity. We battle with being a living epistle, one that leads others to Christ and does not place a stumbling block in front of others. We contest with our flesh that does not want to seek God.
Much of these battles is conquered in prayer and by diligently drawing near to the throne of grace daily.
It is purely by God's daily grace that He grants true born-again Christians not only the desire to please Him and obey, but also the capability (power). Let us then imitate our Lord and pray for the strength to say and live out this plea: "not as I will, but as You will."
God's grace and power is made so readily available to His children. Why would we want to live out our life in our own strength?
Let us spend much time in prayer today that we may not enter into temptation and thus sin against our beloved Lord.
This is one of my favourite quotes on prayer:
"One sleepless night of anguished prayer,
I triumphed over sin.
One battle in the holy war,
God's promised me to win."
