But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you...
Matthew 5:44 ESV
For the born-again Christian, it is the norm to have persecution in our lives. Those who persecute us for standing up for Christ, and what the bible teaches, can be considered as our enemies. This is not because we have any ill against them, but rather, they made themselves an enemy by the position and the actions they take against us.
We are commanded by our Lord Jesus Christ to essentially love and pray for our enemies.
Jesus doesn't say "get revenge" (negative stance), nor does even He say "don't hate" or "don't sin against your enemy" (neutral stance). Rather, Jesus commands an active and loving approach (positive stance) towards them - pray for them.
You cannot truly pray for an enemy without loving them with the love of Christ. This is impossible for the natural man who is not born-again, but this is truly possible for the Holy Spirit empowered Christian.
Let us pray for the repentance and salvation of our enemies.
