"This people honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.”
- Matthew 15:8
This Scripture may be small in size but the meaning of this has so much depth.
So many Christians say they love Christ, yet they live a selfish, sinful and utterly unacceptable lifestyle — according to God’s Word.
Such people will attend church most weekends, worship God with their sweet talk, pray in church gatherings and sing their praises during worship, however during the rest of the week they live like the devil. (1 John 3:8)
The Bible says in Proverbs 4:16, that they can not sleep without first doing evil.
It’s sad that people can act this way and still profess to be Christians.
1 John 2:4-6 explains their situation:
“Whoever says "I know him" but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.”
If you know someone who professes the faith but lives wrong according to God's Word, do not go around gossiping about them, but instead, the godly thing to do is to use this information to pray for those people who are so heavily deceived.
It’s not only lip service, but life service!
Those are the words I once heard someone teach one Sunday morning, and how true those words really are.
It is not just what we say for the Kingdom of Heaven, but also our entire life should be devoted to Christ. We live to please God, not ourselves.
We are called on a life-long journey to share the Gospel with those who are lost - so let us do just that.
