Read of Jonathan`s loyalty in chapter 20 of 1 Samuel.
Jonathan is a shining example of loyalty!
1 Samuel 20:3
Then David took an oath again, and said, “Your father certainly knows that I have found favour in your eyes, and he has said, ‘Do not let Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved.’ But truly, as the Lord lives and as your soul lives, there is but a step between me and death.”
1 Samuel 20:4
So Jonathan said to David, “Whatever you yourself desire, I will do it for you.”
They devised a plan that Jonathan would find out Saul`s intentions toward David and warn him of it.
1 Samuel 20:30-31
Then Saul’s anger was aroused against Jonathan, and he said to him, “You son of a perverse, rebellious woman! Do I not know that you have chosen the son of Jesse to your own shame and to the shame of your mother’s nakedness? For as long as the son of Jesse lives on the earth, you shall not be established, nor your kingdom. Now therefore, send and bring him to me, for he shall surely die.”
When Jonathan discovered that his father Saul had evil intentions toward his friend David and planned on killing him, he let David know so that he would escape from his father`s evil plan.
1 Samuel 20:41-42
As soon as the lad had gone, David arose from a place toward the south, fell on his face to the ground, and bowed down three times. And they kissed one another; and they wept together, but David more so. Then Jonathan said to David, “Go in peace, since we have both sworn in the name of the Lord, saying, ‘May the Lord be between you and me, and between your descendants and my descendants, forever.’ ” So he arose and departed, and Jonathan went into the city.
With Jonathan, truth always guided his loyalty. He stood with David when his father was untruthful.
Loyalty: the quality of being loyal, allegiance, faithfulness, fidelity, obedience, fealty, adherence, homage, devotion, bond; trueness, true-heartedness; steadfastness, fastness, staunchness, dependability, reliability, trustiness, trustworthiness, duty, constancy, dedication, commitment; firmness, stability, steadiness; (Dictionary.com)
Jonathan realised that the source of truth is God, who demanded his ultimate loyalty.
His loyalty to God guided him through the conflicting demands of his human relationships.
If we communicate to our friends and families that our ultimate loyalty is to God and His truth, many of our choices will be much clearer.
The truth in God`s Word will bring light to our decisions.
Lessons from Jonathan`s life:
Loyalty is one of the strongest parts of courage.
An allegiance to God put`s all other relationship`s in perspective.
Great friendship`s are costly.

We will discover that when we stand in God`s truth, a lot of our friends and family won`t understand us, will think we are being self-righteous and will accuse us of all kinds of things. But we must hold fast until the end and be true to God who is the giver of life eternal. It is far better to serve and please Him than try to please our loved ones by compromising God`s Word.
We must trust our loved ones into God`s keeping. He knows best how to deal with them and bring them into the saving knowledge of His truth! Praise His holy name.
