Below are the last seven sentences uttered by Jesus on the cross. These words have been treasured by all who have followed Him as their Lord.
They demonstrate both His humanity and His divinity. They also capture the last moments of all that Jesus went through to obtain salvation for us.
Jesus laid down His life for us! He was the only One who could pay that heavy price on our behalf!
1. Luke 23:34
Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” And they divided His garments and cast lots.
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
2. Luke 23:43
And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”
That whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
3. John 19:26-27
When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.
"For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.”
4. Matthew 27:46
And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
1 Peter 4:1
Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin.
5. John 19:28
After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!”
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.
6. John 19:30
So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.
And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.
7. Luke 23:46
And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, ‘into Your hands I commit My spirit.’ ” Having said this, He breathed His last.
...being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.
Jesus suffered and died so that we might one day live with Him forever in eternity!
