The word of the Lord came to me again, saying,
“Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre,
‘Thus says the Lord God:
“Because your heart is lifted up, And you say, ‘I am a god, I sit in the seat of gods, In the midst of the seas,’ Yet you are a man, and not a god, Though you set your heart as the heart of a god
(Behold, you are wiser than Daniel! There is no secret that can be hidden from you! With your wisdom and your understanding You have gained riches for yourself, And gathered gold and silver into your treasuries;
By your great wisdom in trade you have increased your riches, And your heart is lifted up because of your riches),”
Pride is a dreadful thing. We can see here how the king of Tyre was so proud of his accomplishments, he was lifted up and filled with pride in himself.
We can become so full of ourselves that we don`t give God the glory for anything we have in our lives. We can be deceived into thinking it's through our own efforts that we have obtained the things we have ... just like this king did.
I used to listen to, and love, the preaching of a man, whom, at the time I considered to be a preacher of God`s Word, until he started talking about believers being little gods, that`s when he lost me. I knew, even though I was not a mature Christian at the time, that we are not God, nor will we ever be. This is a sure sign of a false teacher.
As we read on in this chapter we will discover that it is Satan that he is actually referring to here.
‘Thus says the Lord God:
“You were the seal of perfection, Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes Was prepared for you on the day you were created.
“You were the anointed cherub who covers;
I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones.
You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, Till iniquity was found in you.
Don`t let yourself get puffed up in your own self-importance, otherwise you'll be treading on very dangerous ground. God will, and does, punish sin eventually, don`t allow yourself to get caught up in self-praise as it will blind you to the truth and your heart will harden towards God.
Never forget to give God ALL the glory, and always remember that He brought you out of darkness into His glorious light!
For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.
