Today more than ever, it’s easy to get stuck in a rut and it’s also too easy to get distracted with all the cares of this world. I love Psalm 100 because it so cheerfully invites us to come into His presence with gladness and thanksgiving.
Psalm 100 ‘Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the Lord is good; His steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.’
In His presence there is fullness of joy – and the joy of the Lord is our strength. It’s a beautiful truth to behold that we are made by God, having been knitted together by His hands in our mothers’ womb and more than that, we are His. When we know Jesus, we are His beloved. He is the Good Shepherd and we are His sheep.
Like sheep, we can often wander off away from the Shepherd with all sorts of distractions and it is chiefly the Shepherd’s role to steer His prized flock back on track. When this happens, He is faithful to remind us of His sweet fellowship which draws His beloved back.
This Psalm beautifully invites us to give thanks and praise to God. He loves us so dearly and for this we ought to be eternally grateful.
Give thanks to Him – bless His name!
