"...choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin..."
Hebrews 11:24-25 ESV
Today's verse refers to choosing to please God rather than anyone else (including yourself).
In context, the writer of Hebrews is writing to an audience that is being heavily persecuted (even unto death). In the midst of all this, the writer is advising the Hebrew people to not abandon Christianity and to have faith in God; as did many in the Old Testament.
Reader this applies to our lives as well. You may not be in a situation where your life is at risk, however, it does not change anything even if you are as our duty is to please God even in the face of death.
We all have choices to make every day. Let us make choices that please our Creator. Let us not compromise or choose the fleeting pleasures of sin even if it means that we are mistreated.
"Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
Matthew 5:10 ESV
